You can always build up over time to a longer length nail but believe me, if I ever wanted to debilitate someone, putting a set of extreme length nails on them would be the way to go! Nail biters have very little nail to apply an enhacement onto so the longer the extension is, the higher the risk of the extension lifting or coming off completely. If your not used to extensions, never had them before, or are a nail biter, I wouldn’t do an extreme length nail on you.

However it is always your choice, I will just advise you. This is because it’s not always practical to have an extremely long set of nails if youve maybe just had a baby or your work includes a lot of typing for example. Now if you’ve ever booked an appointment with me for extensions, you will know that I will discuss with you your preferences, expectations and I will also ask about your lifestyle and complete a client care/info sheet (which I do with every new client). This is purely my preference, I’m rubbish when it comes to nail glue and I just end up sticking my own fingers together so for both you and I, – trust me, sculpting is the better option! I sculpt every set I do rather than glueing a tip on. I’m dual trained as in I’m qualified to create extensions with hard gel as well as acrylic, yet my skill level in acrylic far outweighs that of gel, so I use acrylic. I use acrylic to make an extension of the nail length.

So here’s some simple explanations as to what these three service options are and why you would choose to have them…Įxtensions or “enhancements” are simply extending the length of your natural nail. It’s so easy to get carried away with nail jargon when your a tech and sometimes you forget that not everyone knows as much as you about a service. While Aaron says that a simple soak-off should do the trick, Stern says that if 10 to 15 minutes of soaking isn’t doing it, then damage is more likely to occur to the nail, as filing will be necessary.I get many messages from potential/new clients asking me that they would like an appointment with me, yet they don’t really know what it is exactly that they need/want!

  • Removal can damage nails: Lastly, removal can be a pain.
  • Some people are allergic to dip powder: The bonder used for dip powder nails is often a monomer, and according to Stern, monomers are common allergens and can cause irritation along the nail beds.
  • Instead, your nail tech should brush the powder directly onto your nail or pour powder from the pot into a Dixie cup for single use (this is wasteful, so most salons use the brush-on method).
  • Hygiene issues in some salons: If you're getting your dip powder done at a salon, your nail technician shouldn't actually "dip" your nail into the powder pot, as dipping everyone’s nails into the same jar of powder could be a means for infection and other sanitary issues.
  • This can be avoided by tapping the excess powder off of your nail before applying sealant.
  • Can look bulkier than regular polish: If too much powder goes onto the nail, you can quickly find yourself with a very thick, bulky look.
  • After you shape and file your nails to your desired look, apply a topcoat." "You should wait two to five minutes before beginning to shape and file nails after applying the activator.
  • Wait a few minutes, then apply a topcoat: "This step is to dry and harden the product," Aaron says.
  • Once you've applied the base coat to a single nail, dip the nail in the dipping tray of powder and repeat on each nail, brushing off any excess. You may want to re-dip your nails two to three times based on your desired opacity and color intensity.
  • Base and powder are applied: "Brush on the base just as if you were polishing your nails," Aaron instructs, noting to go one nail at a time.
  • Bonder is applied: Once you've cleaned and prepped your nails, Aaron says you may apply a bonder so that the product can adhere to the nail plate and lessen the chance of lifting.
  • This is also where you should push your cuticles back, clip any hangnails, and buff the surface of the nail plate.
  • The nails are prepped: "Before starting any manicure, you must ensure the nails are prepped by cleaning and freeing the nail plate of any dirt and oils," Aaron says.
