The UPIC number was dispatched to 4.5 lakh properties as it was used to pay the property tax. The online payment of property tax was made mandatory by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). The UPIC number will facilitate the identification of non-testamentary documents that are related to immovable property, as such documents won’t be accepted unless they contain a description of the real estate.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation official said that no technical issue will be caused while capturing the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) in the software. The National Informatics Centre has designed this portal.
A similar appeal was made by the other two civic bodies earlier. The chief secretary was requested by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation to implement the project. This initiative by the Delhi government would incorporate the details of people, their status, properties, etc online and would bring them under the tax net. The people who are not intentionally submitting their property tax or are not liable to submit it will get covered from now.

Along with property registration of real estate, the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) would be needed for rent agreement through the revenue department, obtaining licenses (veterinary trade, factory, general trade, health, etc), and mutation. Vikas Anand, the commissioner of East Delhi Municipal Corporation said that they would be the first to implement the project in the city. The Delhi government mentioned that, until further orders, Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) is to be used by all the sub-registrars in the nearby areas under the EDMC jurisdiction. The order was to implement the said proposal on a pilot basis. The Delhi government issued an order to implement the proposal of incorporating UPIC in the documents required for registering all property details online. Also, while buying any new property, it can be ascertained whether there is any house tax or any other kind of dues on that property," added the Mayor.It is advisable to get a UPIC (Unique Property Identification Code) from the EDMC (East Delhi Municipal Corporation before registering your real estate anywhere with the Delhi government revenue department in east Delhi.
People can avail the facility from electricity and water connection to PNG through this ID. Through UPIC ID, people will be able to easily take advantage of all the civic amenities related to the property. "By coming under UPIC, the evasion of property tax will also stop and the revenue of the corporation will increase. So far 5.90 lakh people have registered through UPIC. Property survey is being done in the entire area by EDMC while simultaneously UPIC ID is being generated for the properties." Agarwal said one can apply for the UPIC ID of his/her property by visiting the EDMC website or can check the details of the property through the ID. But, now with one ID, all their work will be done easily. Speaking to ANI, EDMC Mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal said, "Till now, people had to roam here and there for property registration or other property-related works.
